About Nile Crocodiles

The Nile Crocodile (Crocodilus niloticus) live throughout sub-Saharan Africa, the Nile Basin, and Madagascar in rivers, freshwater marshes, and mangrove swamps. It can grow to 20 feet long and weigh as much as 1600 pounds. It is known as a man-eater, but attacks on humans are infrequent. It eats mainly fish, but will grab generally anything that comes across its path. It will also eat carrion. The Nile crocodile is a caring parent. It guards the eggs carefully and will stay near the nest until the babies hatch. The Nile crocodile carries the young gently in its jaws to the water. The Nile crocodile is threatened by poachers and is coveted for its meat and skin.
