Plastic Radiated Tortoise

I'd be slow too if I were carrying my HOUSE on my back!

Our Plastic Radiated Tortoise

This engaging, realistic-looking plastic radiated tortoise miniature is made of hard plastic. This replica has a detailed shell and is painted dark brown and tan. It is 2 1/2 inches long and 1 1/2 inches high. This radiated tortoise miniature makes for a nice pet, fits into a shoebox diorama for a school project, or serves as a great collectible. Check out our other tortoise toys and gifts.

About Radiated Tortoises

The radiated tortoise (Astrochelys radiata) is a large, beautiful tortoise native to Madagascar. It is an herbivore feeding mainly on seeds, leaves and fruits in dry forests. It gets its name from the yellow streaks which radiate like sun rays on its carapace. Radiated Tortoises live 40 -50 years, but a radiated tortoise may hold the record of the oldest living reptile, with one allegedly living 150 years. Unfortunately radiated toroises have been hunted extensively for the pet trade or poached for meat and is now considered an endangered species.

Tooting Tortoise

My cousin snapped this photo of a sign painter at work and recalled that her uncle, my father, had been blessed with this artistic gift. In the above picture this talented man is putting some final detail on the plastron of a musical tortoise. Tapir and Friends Animal Store has a wide variety of plastic tortoises and turtles. The store specializes in selling realistic animal replicas and avoids carrying caricatures, but we enjoy sharing pictures of happy-looking animals.

"G" is for what?

In our online gift shop, we have a lot of animals that start with "G"! Above is a plastic golden lion tamarin - a small monkey with a beautiful golden coat.

And of course, "G" is for gorilla, too! We even have a plastic white gorilla replica or toy that can be fun for all ages above about 2 and a half years.

In fact, we have lots of gorilla toys and gifts. Please come see them all!

Can you say "gecko"? That's almost the same sound a real gecko makes. We have gecko jewelry! Take a look at this beautifully hand-painted gecko pin!

What would "G" be without an animal from the Galapagos Islands! This Galapagos tortoise 3-D interlocking puzzle is one of our most popular toys. We have a lot of other 3D puzzles, too, and you can find them from the link above. Recently we created a new page just for Galapagos animals, and we have quite a few. Check them out here on our special Galapagos Islands wild animal page!
