Stuffed Armadillo

Back by popular demand!!

What a great stuffed plush armadillo! He is quite real looking, and the multi-design fabric adds to the effect. This stuffed animal has some nice touches. Note the fold of the rim around the armadillo's back and the additional texture around it. Our stuffed armadillo from Fiesta is appealingly unhurried-looking. Is he or she curious? It looks that way to us! This stuffed animal is and cuddly, sturdy and soft. To find our other stuffed animals by Fiesta, or see a list of our entire inventory of stuffed animals, beanies and puppets, check out our Stuffed Animal page; and be sure to look over our other armadillo toys and gifts.

About Armadillos

Nine-banded armadillos (Dasypus novemcinctus) have been moving north from South America for the past three million years. Armadillos originated in South America about 50 million years ago, and the nine-banded moved north, crossing the Panamanian land bridge. It is the only armadillo species found in the US, where its range continues to expand. As the armadillo actually has teeth, it is no longer classed as Edentata ("without teeth") but is now usually grouped with the Xenarthra. We have left our armadillo on the Edentates page, because these are still its closest relatives. There are 20 species of armadillo living in Central and South America. Armadillos dig for grubs and create burrows near water with their powerful feet and claws. In addition to grubs, they also eat other insects and invertibrates. These interesting, inoffensive creatures can be seen along roadsides, trails, and streams (where you can see into the brush), usually around dawn and dusk.

It stands 13 inches tall and has a 6 inch tail. The back feet are somewhat adjustable, allowing this plush groundhog to stand easily without falling over. The plump huggable body is made of realistic fur-like material with felt inside the ears, a soft plastic nose and gold-brown comforting eyes. This groundhog makes a nice pet or a gift and fits nicely in a stuffed animal collection. Do you know anyone who loves the movie Groundhog Day and has seen it over and over and over again? (Um,sorry, I couldn't help it!) Anyway, this could be the perfect gift for fans of Groundhog Day or could add to your Groundhog Day celebration! It's a very nice stuffed toy! Check out our other squirrel and groundhog toys and gifts.

About Groundhogs

The groundhog (Marmota monax) belongs to the group of ground squirrels known as marmots. Most marmots are found in the mountains, whereas the ground hog is a lowland variety. It is also known as a woodchuck. It is one of the larger squirrels, weighing up tp 7 pounds and is often 2 feet long. It loves to live in alfalfa fields and burrows 45 feet of tunnels, 5 feet deep with several entrances. It eats mainly grasses, but will eat small insects as well. Groundhogs can withstand cold temperatures with its two layers of fur, but is one of the only animals that goes into true hibernation. Every year Groundhog Day is celebrated in February as a humorous way to predict the length of Winter. Other than man the groundhog must cope with wolves, foxes and large hawks as predators, but has sharp claws to defend itself. Since groundhogs live in colonies, members warn one another with a high-pitched whistle to sound danger.

Adorable Stuffed Raccoon

This is one raccoon you would love to snuggle with!

Our stuffed raccoon is lifelike and sturdy. It has a few "beans" inside, but basically it looks and feels like a regular stuffed animal. The nose and eyes are made of black plastic, and the claws are made of soft felt so they can't scratch. Our stuffed raccoon is cuddly and adorable, and has a curious look in its wise-looking eyes. The size is big enough to be snuggled by an adult or child, and its sturdy body makes a good place to rest a little one's weary head. It would make a good companion on trips as well as at home. See our other raccoon toys and gifts.

Raccoons are related to the cacomistle or bassarisk, a small ring-tailed mammal found from Oregon to Mexico. Other relatives are the coati mundi, kinkajou, and red panda. Raccoons belong to the Family Procyonidae. The giant panda was once classified as a member of the raccoon family, but is now considered to be a true bear. According to Wikipedia, "Raccoons are unusual, for their thumbs (though not opposable) enable them to open many closed containers (such as garbage cans and doors). They are omnivores with a reputation for being clever and mischievous; their intelligence and dexterity equip them to survive in a wide range of environments and are one of the few medium-to-large-sized animals that have enlarged its range since human encroachment began (another is the coyote).

Stuffed Wolf

This wolf is perfect for cuddling with!

This engaging, realistic-looking stuffed wolf is soft and affectionate-looking. Its legs are made of plush hair and are sewn together to replicate a lying position. The body and head are light gray and light tan with black around the muzzle and ears of the wolf's head. Our wolf is probably a cub. He has a kindly expression and promises not to bite. He makes a nice pet, a gift, or fits perfectly into a stuffed animal collection. Check out our other wolf toys and gifts.

Our beautiful stuffed wolf appears to depict a young gray wolf (Canis lupus), which is also known as a timber wolf. The adult is the largest wolf, about 3 feet in length and weighing about 100 pounds. It once roamed freely throughout North America and Eurasia, but hunting and habitat destruction has taken a significant toll on the wolf population. Great efforts have been undertaken to reintroduce the wolf to areas of the Northwest and Idaho with cooperation of ranchers, who see the wolf as a threat to livestock, especially sheep. The wolf is incredibly adaptable to climate and terrain and can travel long distances. It can withstand frigid temperatures and can be found in snowy mountains, high deserts and plains. Its claws and padded feet are designed with special webbing for hanging on to slippery surfaces. Wolves have bulky coats consisting of two layers. The first layer is made up of tough guard hairs designed to repel water and dirt. The second is a dense, water-resistant undercoat that insulates. The wolf is a special animal to be appreciated by all. It has been valued by native people in their art and religion.

"Oliver" the Stuffed Pink Pig?

Although this is not an official Oliver Pig, the manufacturer thinks it looks like Oliver. In any case, this plush pig will make any youngster who likes animals stories or anyone at all who likes pigs a great fuzzy companion.

I'm sorry the photo came out a bit gray - it sometimes happens here in the rainy Pacific Northwest on an overcast and rainy day. I assure you this pig is pink and wonderful and cuddly, and makes us smile up here in Coastal Oregon where it rains all the time! The stuffed pig is made by Hansa, a landmark quality manufacturer of stuffed animals based in the Philippines where the work in constructing these fine creatures is all done by hand.

Our stuffed pink pig is 10 inches long from nose to rump with an additional 1 1/2-inch, white-tufted curled tail. Handcrafted beautifully by Hansa, this pig has many fine features, including hooves painted to appear cloven, ears stitched to a realistic shape, a detailed mouth, and a fabric tongue. Our pink pig is sturdy, has posable front legs and stands 7 inches tall. Let him become a family member. He is clean and loving, and fits nicely in a stuffed animal collection. Be sure to see our other pig toys and gifts.

About Pigs

The words pig, hog and swine are generic terms and may be used interchangeably without regard to gender, size or breed. A male pig is called a boar. A female pig is called a gilt if she hasn't had piglets yet, or called a sow if she has had a litter. The pig originated as a Eurasian wild boar and was domesticated by early farming people. The pig is known as an even-toed ungulate having four toes, although it walks on only two. It is an incredibly intelligent animal with a brain size similar to humans. It keeps clean and only rolls in the mud to cool off, since it lacks sweat glands. It has been a valuable food supply for generations of people from many cultures. Some religions, such as Judaism and Islam, have prohibitions regarding eating pork. This is not because the pig is externally dirty, but because it doesn't have cud to redigest.

Aardvark stuffed animal by Hansa - back in stock!

Aardvark Stuffed Toy We've missed our beautiful stuffed aardvark by Hansa, and so have our customers! We're happy to report that the aardvark is back in stock and ready for shipping. Now, who could resist those prominent pink ears and cool tongue? Come on over and take a look!

Our wonderfully realistic-looking stuffed aardvark by Hansa is a toy that looks amazingly like a real animal. The plush aardvark is 12 1/2 inches from nose to rump. Its tail adds another 10 inches to its length, and the pink fabric-covered tongue is posable and holds its position when you move it. The tongue is about 1 1/2 inches long. It is sewn with soft plush fabric with extra-soft white tufts around the eyes, ears, and chin. There are four toes on each front foot and five toes on each back foot. This is a good thing, because aardvarks are known for digging! It has gentle hard plastic eyes (black pupils with a ring of gold for the iris) pinkish brown inside the ears. Our stuffed aardvark replica has a kindly expression and promises to snuggle next to you. This aardvark makes a wonderful gift for stuffed animal lovers and complements nicely any stuffed animal collection. The fabric is produced in small batches and is chosen especially for this animal. Each piece is hand-stictched in the Philippines by crafters willing to produce a unique item each and every time. Check out our other aardvark toys and gifts.

Read more about Hansa stuffed animals and see our selection.

Aardvarks (Orycteropus afer) are African mammals of a medium size that are most active at night and are good at burrowing into the earth. Their name, "aardvark," comes from the Afrikaans/Dutch language and means "earth pig." This unusual-looking animal has many names locally, including "antbear" or "anteater," although it is not a close relative of the anteaters of South America. Neither is it closely related to a pig, but is somewhat isolated taxonomically and is the only member of the order Tubulidentata. It is not a true edetate, although we've listed it with our edentates on the web site so that people could find it. As odd as it sounds, the aardvark is most closely related to elephant shrews, hyraxes, tenrecs and elephants. If we had put the aardvark in our elephant category, would you have found it? It's a strange thought!

Sifaka lemur stuffed animal

Sifaka Lemur Stuffed Animal Our cute and very cuddly stuffed sifaka lemur is in stock and ready to ship! What a great holiday gift for a lemur lover or anyone who likes animals.

Lemurs (Lemuridae) are "prosimians." They are primates, but are not as highly evolved as monkeys or great apes. One easily recognizable feature that differs between the lemurs and other primates is the long, almost dog-like nose of the lemurs. Whereas the other primates rely more heavily on vision and hearing, lemurs rely more on their sense of smell. There are 11 species of true lemurs and 7 species of dwarf lemurs. Lemurs are found only in the woodlands on the island of Madagascar, and the Comoro Islands near Madagascar. The lemur is known for its long tail, which it holds up like a question mark when it walks or runs upon the ground. The markings on our stuffed lemur most closely match the Verreaux's Sifaka Lemur (Propithecus verreauxi).

Our exceptionally soft, cuddly stuffed sifaka lemur toy animal by Fiesta measures 9 1/2 inches long. The eyes, ears, legs and tail are securely attached making this charming stuffed animal a suitable toy for all ages. To find our other stuffed toy animals from Fiesta, or see our entire inventory of stuffed animals, stuffed beanies and plush hand puppets, check out our Stuffed Animals Page and Stuffed Beanies and Plush Puppets Page. The woolly mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius) first roamed the earth 150,000 years ago. The mammoth migrated from Africa northward into Europe, east through the Steppes of Asia, and then into the Arctic. During the Pleistocene Era (Ice Age), when temperatures were so much colder, the woolly mammoth developed thick shaggy hair, special glands to secrete fat to insulate the skin from the cold, and smaller ears and special teeth to grind tundra. The woolly mammoth developed huge curved tusks up to 15 feet long to shovel snow in order to reach tundra and grass below. The woolly mammoth is the most common mammal fossil. Some have been found in Siberia almost completely intact including tissue remnants. It is breathtaking to see the mammoth's skeleton on display in the museum.
