About Green Iguanas

Green iguanas can be found in the untamed wilds of northern Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean Islands, and southern Brazil. The iguana is one of the largest reptiles in the Americas, with the adults reaching lengths of up to 6 feet long! This lizard weighs about 11 pounds, and can reach up to 20 years of age in the wild.

Green iguanas are also known as common iguanas. The green iguana is an herbivore, but don't make it angry - it's equipped with a full set of razor-sharp teeth, and a tail that is half the length of it's body which it uses as a whip to defend itself. Despite all that, it is still one of the most popular reptilian pets in the United States. Sadly, most people do not do proper research when considering an iguana as a pet, and because of that the majority of iguana owners are not prepared for the difficulty of taking care of such an animal. Most captive iguanas die within their first year of life or are given up to reptile rescue groups.
