the Andean condor

Perched on the top of a column in the main plaza in Cochabamba, Bolivia, is a replica of an Andean condor. The condor represents the origin of  life and is a most sacred symbol in traditional Bolivian thought. It is unclear why, in such a strongly Catholic region, the condor is still so venerated, but, just the same, the gaze of this proud bird instills a sense of authority and a feeeling of protection to those of us below.

Tapir and Friends Animal Store has a wide selection of realistic plastic birds and several detailed examples of plastic raptors including a lovely stuffed California condor from the Audubon colllection.  These bird replicas are educational and useful in school science projects or to teach children about the diversity of the animal kingdom.
