About Pygmy Goats

Indigenous to the Cameroon Valley of West Africa, the pygmy goat was first imported to North America in the 1950s to be used as research animals or zoo exhibits. Today, the pygmy goat is a popular household pet, and can even be found in urban and suburban households. Although pygmy goats produce a large quanitity of milk for their size and can be eaten, they are not typically raised for either of these productions, as other breeds of goat excel in these capacities far better than pygmy goats. Females tend to be 50 - 75 pounds, and males tend to weigh 60- 85 pounds. Pygmy goats come in a variety of colors, ranging from white caramel to black. A robust animal, pygmy goats can adapt to almost any climate, and are enthusiastic jumpers, capable of leaping onto small vehicles.
